Destination: Seven Magic Mountains
A note from this week's DESERT magazine newsletter...
Head north toward Las Vegas on Interstate 15, and you might just miss the seven colorful totems in the distance off the highway. Standing in stark contrast to the rustic desert landscape, this public art installation by Ugo Rondinone - appropriately titled Seven Magic Mountains - speaks to the dichotomy that is Las Vegas: Though dripping in neon lights, the city is centrally located in the midst of natural beauty.
It's a striking juxtaposition captured abstractly in these monuments. For an up-close look - not to mention an excellent Instagram photo-op - pull off the highway just after Gold Strike Hotel & Gambling Hall. There's an informational board and guests are free to roam around.
